A TESTIMONY BY DR. TOMMY TYSON, A UNITED METHODIST EVANGELIST

Once while Nancy and I and a couple of our friends were at a training on healing ministry in Jacksonville, Florida, I had the opportunity to chat with Dr. Francis MacNutt. He told me that one of his best friends had been a United Methodist healing evangelist by the name of Dr. Tommy Tyson.

The Rev. Dr. Tommy Tyson’s was a United Methodist from North Carolina, and his father had been a Methodist pastor, and all of Tommy’s brothers had become Methodist pastors, too. After spending a few years as a pastor, Tommy felt led by the Holy Spirit to become a traveling evangelist. In this capacity he met a number of people who became key friends in his life. One of them was Oral Roberts. At Dr. Roberts' request, Tommy moved to Tulsa and spent two or three years on staff at ORU as the Director of Spiritual Life. This was while Dr. Roberts was launching his university. During his time in Tulsa, I know he sometimes served as a guest preacher at First United Methodist Church in Tulsa for while I was an associate pastor at the church, I found an old cassette tape of one of his sermons from that era.

One story I heard about Dr. Tyson was that as he was driving somewhere, in the North Carolina mountains, I think, the Holy Spirit spoke to him to take the next exit because someone needed healing. In obedience, Tommy knocked at the first five houses, asking if there was someone there who was in need of a healing. At the fifth house, the people said, “We were just now praying for God to send someone to us who would pray for mother to be healed.”

I have attached a link below to a testimony by Dr. Tyson about how the Holy Spirit used him in ministry in Wyoming. It will take about ten minutes to read, and would be great for you to use as a devotion, or to share with your family and friends and facebook friends, for it illustrates how the Holy Spirit is as active today as ever!

May the Spirit of God fill you. May Jesus save and heal you. Let us all pray for God's Holy Spirit to bring revival throughout the churches of Oklahoma!
